PHCC-NC Holds 2009 Summer Convention

PHCC-NC, Inc. held its 2009 Summer Convention July 23-26 at the Holiday Inn Sunspree Wrightsville Beach, NC. This is the third year in a row the PHCC has held its summer convention at this location. Attendance has been so good the past couple years the board of directors recently decided to hold the convention there July 29 – August 1, 2010. The PHCC kicked off convention Friday morning at Jungle Rapids Family Fun Park for its 2nd Annual Big Bad PHCC Putt-Putt Tournament. Teams represented were Baker Mechanical - Wilson, Brown Brothers Plumbing & Heating – Durham, Gastonia Plumbing & Heating, Gastonia Sheet Metal, Haas Sales – Charlotte, Hickory Plumbing & Heating, James M. Pleasants Co. – Greensboro, Jeff’s Plumbing & Repair – Boone, Moen, & T.R. Driscoll – Lumberton. The group also enjoyed Grand Prix Go-Kart Racing, Laser Tag, Rock Climbing Wall, Kids Jungle, & the Sky Tower. Afterwards Joel Long with Gastonia Sheet Metal presided over a 2.5 hour board meeting with PHCC’s executive committee, directors, members, & staff from 2:30PM – 5PM.

The winning Putt-Putt team, Jeff’s Plumbing & Repair with PHCC’s executive director, Dianne Gulli, won the tournament & received their trophy at the Welcoming Reception held Friday evening where heavy hors d’oeuvres & drinks were provided. The group had a great time & got some good laughs as it held an Ugly Hawaiian Dress Up Contest at this year’s reception. The winners of the contest were Avra Shorkend & Mike Kirwin with Moen. Mike is a new board member this year as well as Jeff Farlow with Envirotrol, Inc. in Greensboro, & Justin Elliott with Precision Plumbing in Charlotte.

While family members enjoyed free time the following Saturday, the board of directors, members & staff were all invited by President Long to participate in an informal planning session over breakfast from 8AM – 10AM which was well attended. The group departed the meeting to enjoy fun in the sun until dinner on the resort’s terrace overlooking the pool & ocean. The theme for this year’s dinner was an outdoor cookout with board game night – perfect summer flair & fun competition PHCC style. They also had a hula-hoop contest with Deah Oxford as the winner with a lot of close seconds! This year the group played a game called Cornhole & enjoyed new custom PHCC-NC boards provided by www.harnettcountycornhole.com. The game is similar to horseshoes & was enjoyed by the entire group throughout the evening. This year’s reception & dinner sponsors included Carrier, Federated Insurance, and James M. Pleasants Company with special recognition & gratitude to the Carolina Plumbing News.

Next year PHCC-NC will also be celebrating its centennial anniversary with a theme of “Reunion Summer at Wrightsville Beach” & the association wishes all of their members join them.
